Can Roofers Work During Winter?

Roofers are known to work all year round regardless of the season. Hence, people are always likely to see them working on repairs and replacements during both the warm and the cold months. But does this include winter, when weather can be particularly unpredictable?

Experts note that it is normal and alright for roofers to work during this time of year. Yet again, there are obvious reasons why you should not plan your roofing replacement in the middle of the winter season. The project will only be successful when executed by trained professionals.

Things You Need To Remember

  • Winter conditions still make rooftops slippery, and roofers are vulnerable to extreme weather just like everyone else. Moreover, it should be noted that asphalt shingles need to be installed under certain conditions as they are more susceptible to cracking in cold weather.
  • If the forecast indicates snowfall or otherwise unfavorable conditions, the project managers may postpone roofing work. Roofers are hardly busy during the winter season, so rescheduling roof repair or installation won’t be as complex as during the peak season.
  • Asphalt shingles tend to be brittle when exposed to cold weather. Using standard installation methods may result in more worn shingles. To counter this, roofers take extra care when nailing the shingles to the roof deck, hammering by hand. Instead of utility knives, they may use snips or shears to reduce breakage. Moreover, materials can be stored in heated trucks and only be taken out last to ensure that they don’t freeze.
  • Spring is guaranteed to be the best season to have your property sold. This suggests that having your roof replaced or fixed during the colder months can still be ideal. Discounts and promos are also essential factors to consider at this time!
