What Is the HardiZone® System?

One factor to consider when choosing a siding material is your area’s climate. Your siding should be able to stand up against your local weather conditions. James Hardie® siding products are Engineered for Climate®, meaning they stay efficient no matter your location.

Learn about the features of the HardieZone® system from a trusted siding and roofing contractor.

The HardieZone® System

The HardieZone system is designed to protect your home regardless of your climate. It’s based on eight individual climatic variables that mainly affect a siding’s long-term performance.

Whether you live in a place that experiences warm, humid or wet, freezing conditions, there’s a HardieZone perfect for your home. James Hardie came up with two product lines to cover ten distinct climatic zones.

HZ5®: Cold, Snow, and Ice

The HZ5 product line is ideal for homes located in climates with freezing temperatures, extreme temperature changes, and snow and ice. The surface of these products is engineered for higher performance, providing it with superior paint adhesion and moisture resistance. It comes with a drip edge for better water management. Once your siding contractor finishes installing your siding, you’ll have an exterior engineered for extremely cold climates.

HZ10®: Harsh Sun, Hurricane-Force Winds, and Heavy Rains

The HZ10 product line is made for locations with hurricane-force winds, salty sea air, and harsh, humid heat. This product line’s boards resist cracking, splitting, rotting, and swelling under hot and humid conditions. It’s an ideal option if you live in an area that experiences strong sunlight, high winds, and hurricanes. Since it comes with ColorPlus® Technology, you don’t have to worry about your siding fading overtime. It also resists flame spread.
